Stags Fell in the Snow

For the last 2 Snowy Sundays of December I`ve taken a short ride up from Hawes on to the Swaledale Road and around Stags Fell.

About a third of the way over the road towards Swaledale you take the signposted Bridleway on the right up the steep grassy track onto the Fell and then back around towards Hawes following the Bridleway signs.

Its only about 7 miles but there’s the steep climb up to the top of the Fell, then a gentle level ride starting on the grassy bridleway before joining the man made track for the Grouse Shoot. Before a rather quick descent back into Sedbusk and Hawes.

Diamond Jubilee Beacon – Stags Fell

Had a beacon organised by the old ex-Hawes Scouts , of which I am one, up on Stags Fell above Hawes on Monday night for the Queens Diamond Jubilee. It was originally planned for Yoreber above Burtersett but we could not get the tractors and trailers up on to the fell. So we came retired home and came up with Plan B and moved it across to the other side of the Dale. Spent an hour or so collecting logs Continue reading
