Images from here and there may be some Mountain Biking…

MTB Touching 4 Dales alternative route.

Today took a longish ride from Hawes which touched on Wensleydale, Widdale, Dentdale and Garsdale. Its a variation of a ride posted sometime ago, a bit shorter by taking the direct route onto the Cam Road rather than going via the Roman Road above Butersett.

GPX-50(1)

Distance: 21.5 miles
Time: 3 hours

Mainly off road, some tough climbs made up for by a great off-road descent to Newby Head and a steep drop down to Garsdale Station on the Coal Road.

The only changes to this route from the original route (MTB Touching 4 Dales) is the first part of the ride from Hawes.

Starting from Hawes, for example in the National Parks Car Park near Stage1Cycles. Turn right on to the one way system in Hawes and head on the road towards Ingleton. This is signposted at the top of the Town just past the petrol station, heading left up the hill past the Youth Hostel. After about half to three quarters of a mile head left pretty much at the top of the hill and take the unsignposted bridleway, a rough track going up the hill.

Took a ride from Hawes up to Cam Top via the bridleway alongside Snaizeholme (actually part of the Pennine Way for the top section), then dropped down the gravelly descent to the head of Widdale before climbing up top the top of Arten Gill Moss, before the descent into Widdale and back to Hawes.

MTB – Aborted ride in the Snow by Snaizeholme

Today I was going to ride around from Hawes up and along past Snaizeholme to the Cam Top road and the back to Hawes via the Roman Road (Beggermans) Bridleway. However due to the amount of snow I managed to get most of the way up the bridleway before it started snowing again. So I decided to push/carry/ride my bike to the top flat plian to see if the snow was blown off the track. Unfortunatley not, so I turn Continue reading

Just a few images taking whilst Mountain Biking over the Christmas week on the few days when its wasn`t blowing a gale and raining cats and dogs, you can still see some of the flooded fields on the pictures. Mind you the winds have still been really stong and I`ve been nearly blown off the bike a couple of times and don`t get me started on the head winds!. However, its been great the get out for a few rides Continue reading
