MTB – Bolton Castle Loop

Another slight variation on my Hawes to Castle Bolton Loop.

Route Distance: Approx 26 miles.Over 13 miles on the Road.
A couple of short steep climbs but mainly flat. Most offroad on flat grassy tracks.GPX-50(1)

From Hawes take the main A684 road towards Aysgarth, then when in Aysgarth take the left hand turn towards Aysgarth Falls. Take a breather and have a look at the waterfall, before climbing backup out of the dale to Carperby. Just before Continue reading

MTB – Hawes Newby Head Loop past Cam Farm

Great Ride today and great weather again.

Distance: 22.5 milesGPX-50(1)
Strenuous climbs with great descents.
Time: 3 hours 15mins

Took the road out of Hawes and up through Burtersett to the Roman Road where the road bisects it. Carry on up the Roman Road, a fairly long climb on a track, take it steady its a good3/4 mile to the top before it levels out with a good bit of downhill all the way to join with the main road Continue reading

MTB Route – Hawes – Cam Top – Gayle

Distance: 14milesGPX-50(1)
Long Climbs, good grassy descents.
Time: about 2hours

Sunday morning ride from Hawes, up the Roman road past Burtersett and across to Cam Top then back to Hawes via the Bridleway to Snaizholme (this has recently been resurfaced with hardcore in places, so its not as wet and muddy as it used to be), then down the wet grassy Bridleway towards (see the photo with my bike against the signpost) Gaudy Farm House.

MTB – Hawes to Bolton Castle Loop

Just done a shortened version of the Wensleydale Loop that I did last year. Didn`t have the time or to be honest the fitness to do it again particularly not with the winds we are getting at the moment.

Anyway a good 50% of the ride is on the road. Distance approx 25 miles.

MTB – Hawes to Dent Head Loop

Tried a variation on one of my usual Routes the other day.

From Hawes to Burtersett and right up the Roman Road, keep going untill you hit the Cam Road and then take the Small gated track past Cam Farm and then down towards Ribble Head Viaduct, nice long speedy downhill great fun after all that climbing up the Roman Road.

Diamond Jubilee Beacon – Stags Fell

Had a beacon organised by the old ex-Hawes Scouts , of which I am one, up on Stags Fell above Hawes on Monday night for the Queens Diamond Jubilee. It was originally planned for Yoreber above Burtersett but we could not get the tractors and trailers up on to the fell.
