MTB Ride – Mallerstang “The Thrang” Loop

4th June 2017

Route description with video of Mountain Bike Loop ride from Hawes in the Yorkshire Dales.GPX of route

Distance: Approx 24 miles
Time: About 3.5 Hours
Some good climbing and two long descents. Bridleway disappears at one point.
Make sure you have a Map, Compass or a good GPS with map.

The loop I did, started from Hawes and headed out of Town on the Sedbergh road past Cotterdale, before turning right towards Kirby Stephen at the Moorcock Inn. Then after a couple of miles riding along side the railway line, turning off the road at Shaw Paddock Farm following the bridleway, it’s just before the road goes under the railway line.

Follow the track as it climbs uptowards Helgill, through the gates and along the grassy track to the Water Sculpture at the top of Mallerstang.

Early 2017 ride photos

10th April 2017

Just a few photos from a few Mountain Bike Rides around Wensleydale, taken so far in 2017. Not really specifying any routes, as mostly taken above Hawes and Burtersett on the Roman Road to Cam Top or over towards Cotterdale and the Lady Anne Highway.

Some interesting rides in the snow/slush and the masses of mud we`ve had recently. Thankfully, it’s finally starting to dry out now! Even tried without the rear mudguard the other day, not too soggy.

MTB – Ride round Snaizeholme and Cam Top

8th December 2016

Video of a ride taken from Hawes, up to Burtersett and the Roman Road / Beggermans. Then up and across to Cam Top on the road. Then taking the Bridleway back towards Hawes skirting along the ridge above Snaizeholme, before the rocks and cobbles of the quick but long descent back down to Hawes.

Distance: Approx 13 miles from Hawes
Time: Couple of Hours
A long climb but worth it for the descent and the views

The ride is about 13 miles in total and on a muddy day like this can take some time!

MTB – Aborted ride in the Snow by Snaizeholme

19th November 2016

Today I was going to ride around from Hawes up and along past Snaizeholme to the Cam Top road and the back to Hawes via the Roman Road (Beggermans) Bridleway. However due to the amount of snow I managed to get most of the way up the bridleway before it started snowing again. So I decided to push/carry/ride my bike to the top flat plian to see if the snow was blown off the track. Unfortunatley not, so I turn around and came back. Only to find that my rear hub had frozen and I had could not pedal my bike, luckily theres a bit of descent so thank goodness for gravity!

Although, once I got back I found that not only had the hub frozen, but it has also broken inside. So back to Stage1cycles to get a rebuild with the Hope Hub from my old 26″ Iron Horse. So now 2 bikes down until the loan of a Niner ROS9 from Stage1cycles.  🙂
