For the last 2 Snowy Sundays of December I`ve taken a short ride up from Hawes on to the Swaledale Road and around Stags Fell.
About a third of the way over the road towards Swaledale you take the signposted Bridleway on the right up the steep grassy track onto the Fell and then back around towards Hawes following the Bridleway signs.
Its only about 7 miles but there’s the steep climb up to the top of the Fell, then a gentle level ride starting on the grassy bridleway before joining the man made track for the Grouse Shoot. Before a rather quick descent back into Sedbusk and Hawes.
As you can see its been very cold and crisp and in some places very icy, got to keep your wits about you especially when decending back to Hawes. Plenty of ice hidden under the snow.
