Video of a XC loop route from Hawes, past Snaizeholme and Cam towards Ribblehead.
Distance: Approx 20 miles
Time: Approx 2.5 hours
Starts with a long climb on sometimes rocky track, may need some bike carrying. Followed by a fantastic descent on a resurfaced Bridleway.
10 minute video of most of the route.
Loop takes you from Hawes along the B6255 taking the bridleway at the top of the hill, where the road bends after about half a mile. What follows is a long climb up the fell side on a track. Some is pretty steep and rocky so be prepared to get off and carry. This takes you along side Snaizeholme, once at the top you follow the valley contours towards Cam on a great bit of track. Then turning right as you join the single track tarmac road, which is followed for about a mile before going back onto the Bridleway where the road drops to Cam Farm.
You then follow the bridleway towards Ribblehead on a slightly downhill section, before joining the newly surfaced Bridleway that the Logging wagons use to remove wood from the forestry. A long fast descent towards Ribblehead then follows – fantastic, but watch out for wagons during the week.
Then its back to Hawes turning right for about a mile before taking a single track farm road which then goes off road following a varied section of track towards Newby Head. You can if you wish take a Bridleway up towards the Fell top from the Dent road but on this occassion I took the main road staright back to Hawes, via Appersett and under the Viaduct.
