MTB – Hawes Mallerstang Loop

Route Distance: approx 16.5 milesGPX-50(1)
1 strenuous climb rest fairly flat.
Time: approx 2hours

Sunday morning ride from Hawes to the entrance of Cotterdale on the road, then over the cattel grid and turn left up the Lady Ann Highway Bridleway. Get ready for a straight up the hill steep climb, luckily most of it is hardpac but higher up its just on grass. Then through the gate and up on to the top past the Lime Kiln. Luckily there`s a bench at the top to rest on and enjoy the view back down Wensleydale.

Now its a ride skirting the edge of the Grouse Moor with great views of the Garsdale Viaduct and the fells. Through the boudary gate and along more hardpac before a small technical narrow downhill paved section, tests the balance when your used to the usual wide bridleways in the dales! Then some great rolling track until just before Hellgill you turn back on yourself back towards the Viaduct down a long track and you come out on the road through a farm and back to Hawes along the road, past the Moorcock Inn, a beer was tempting but there was still 6 miles to go.
