Had a beacon organised by the old ex-Hawes Scouts , of which I am one, up on Stags Fell above Hawes on Monday night for the Queens Diamond Jubilee. It was originally planned for Yoreber above Burtersett but we could not get the tractors and trailers up on to the fell. So we came retired home and came up with Plan B and moved it across to the other side of the Dale. Spent an hour or so collecting logs from the River side of the Ure, and with 2 trailer loads and one extra of pallets, we built the Beacon the following evening.
We had a brilliant night and were joined by a large number of people from around the Hawes and Hardraw area. The Beacon was lit at at 22:10 as per the time instructed and burned really well as was seen from far and wide. Just as we could see the other Beacons down Wensleydale and further afield.
